Overview of the Fashion Department

Santa Monica College’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Department offers an exciting, competitive and highly respected fashion program. Our expert faculty bring decades of industry experience, transforming the classroom into a simulated real-world workspace. Develop the skills you need to create a high-quality professional portfolio: enter into a 4-year degree program or launch your fashion career right away. Fashion Design and Merchandising students also learn about global fashion trends as well as color theory–then put those skills to work during internships and our annual LA Mode Fashion Show.

SMC는 Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM)을 포함한 최고의 4년제 패션학교와 학위 취득 협약

SMC에서 패션전공 준학사 학위 취득 후 UC 또는 CSU계열, FIT, Parsons, Pratt, SVA 3학년으로 편입

패션디자인 프로그램

Fashion Design Program

As a Fashion Design student, you will work hands-on alongside seasoned industry professionals who make up our faculty. Build a foundation in the history of fashion, global fashion trends, color theory, and preliminary sketching. Advance your knowledge and skills with courses in design, technical flat sketching and illustration, pattern drafting, sewing, draping, garment production, and more. You will also learn how to use Adobe Creative Suite and CAD software.

패션 디자인 학생은 저명하고 노련한 업계 전문가로 구성된 교수진들과 함께 실습합니다. 패션의 역사, 글로벌 패션 트렌드, 컬러 이론 및 예비 스케치의 기초를 구축하십시오. 디자인, 기술 평면 스케치 및 일러스트레이션, 패턴 드래프팅, 재봉, 드레이핑, 의류 제작 등의 과정을 통해 패션디자인 지식과 기술을 향상 시키십시오. 또한 학생들은 Adobe Creative Suite 및 CAD 소프트웨어를 사용하는 방법을 배웁니다.

Your classroom is a real-world workshop, where you will sketch garments, cut patterns, source fabrics and materials, and construct sample garments for your own line. These pieces become part of your ever-expanding body of work, which you will compile into a portfolio to help you transition to a 4-year fashion program or enter directly into the fashion industry.

Fashion Merchandising Program

Fashion merchandisers select, purchase, promote, and sell clothing and accessories. As a Fashion Merchandising student, you will study fashion trends, learn about trend forecasting, and visit manufacturers and merchandise markets to gain real-world experience in the field. Your classroom simulates an industry office. You will work in teams and play various roles: manager, buyer, advertiser, display department, and sales representative.

Fashion merchandising offers advanced career options across marketing, purchasing, merchandising, and sales. In this program, you will build a diverse portfolio designed to help you transition to a 4-year institution or enter directly into the fashion industry.
